Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, France. The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, is a Catholic Gothic Cathedral. The construction began in 1163 and the Cathedral was completed in about 1345. It is one of the most visited landmarks in Paris, and is located on the beautiful Seine. It is still a working Catholic Cathedral and has amazingly beuatiful stain glass windows.

Roman Baths at Night, City of Bath, England. This construction was built by the Romans, commencing in around 60AD. The hot water which rises to the surcae hits a temperature of around 46c or 114f.

Roman Baths - Bath, England
The Roman Baths, Bath, England. The Roman Baths are located in the city of Bath, in the U.K. It is a major tourist attraction, bringing in more than 1 million tourists each year.
It has had many uses as a thermal spa over thousands of years, most famously by the Romans, who constructed this building in about 60AD and onwards over the next few hundred years. When they left in the 5th Century AD, the baths fell into disrepair.
The water which is at a temperature of around 46c or 114f, rises up to the surface through faults in the limestone.

Musee D'Orsay - Paris
The Musee D'Orsay in Paris, France. The Musee D'Orsay building started life as a railway station, opening for the Paris exposition in 1900. It was decided that the station should close in the 1970s, and in 1986, the museum opened. It is home to the art of many of the great impressionists and artists, including cezanne, manet, monet, redan, degas, pissaro, van gogh, boudin, caillebotte and millet.

Alcatraz Cell Block - San Francisco
Alcatraz Prison Cell Block - Broadway - San Francisco, United States. This is the cell block known as Broadway at Alcatraz, named due to the amount of traffic that it saw.
Alcatraz opened as a civilian prison in 1934 and was closed in 1963. It housed some of America's most famous criminals including Al Capone. It is now a major tourist site in the United States.

Alcatraz - The Rock, San Francisco
Alcatraz, San Francisco Bay, California, United States. Alcatraz has had a number of uses during its life. It started as a lighthouse island, moving to become a military fortification, followed by a military prison. But Alcatraz's most famous use was as a civilian prison which housed some of America's most famous criminals. The civilian prison of Alcatraz, opened in 1934 and was closed in 1963 by Robert F. Kennedy. At most it could accommodate 300 people, and was often full.

12 Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Australia
The 12 Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia. The Twelve Apostles were originally named the sow and piglets. They are limestone rock formations off the Port Campbell National Park. Due to erosion, unfortunately there are only nine left. The Great Ocean Road, a windy and extremely scenic road along Australia's south coast, is one of the many visited sites of that country and quite beautiful.

3 Gorges Dam, China
The 3 Gorges Dam, Sandouping, Yichang, Hubei, China. The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric river dam that is currently under construction and expected to be operational in 2011. Construction started on the 3 Gorges Dam in 1994. Upon completion, the Dam will be the biggest hydroelectric power station in the world. With climate change and smog a major problem for China, this dam will go a long way to adressing the power shortage in that country.

The Statue of Liberty, New York, at Night. The Statue of Liberty has over 4 million tourist visits every year. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site, receiving that honor in 1984. It is 151 feet or 46 meters tall.

It was presented to commerorate the Centenary of the United States as a gesture of friendship by France. The sculptor was Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous landmarks in the world, and perhaps the most famous landmark in America. It was one of the first visions witnessed by millions of immigrants who came to America by ship.

It has become famous for its beautiful beaches, the full moon party which attracts thousands every month and the Alex Garland novel, The Beach, since made into a movie with Leonardo Di Caprio.

Le pont Alexandre III, Paris, France. This bridge over the Seine in Paris, was built between 1896 and 1900 and was named after named after Tsar Alexander III. It is a beautifully ornate arch bridge, with gold embossed bronze statues. It is often argued that it is the most beautiful bridge in Paris.

Taj Mahal, Agra, India
The Taj Mahal, located in Agra, India was built in the 17th century under Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal. More than 20,000 workers worked on the site, which now plays host to more than 2 million tourists each year. It is perhaps the most recognisable tourism site in India.

Christ the Redeemer - Rio, Brazil
The Christ the Redeemer statue of Jesus Christ is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The statue is 130 feet tall and weighs 700 tonnes. It on the peak of the Corcovado mountain, 700 metres above the city of Rio de Janeiro. After 9 years of construction, it was completed in 1931.

Angkor Wat - Cambodia
Angkor Wat is the most prominent of the temples of Angkor, located just outside Siem Reap, in Cambodia. Angkor Wat was built for King Suryavarman II in the 12th century and is the best preserved temple at Angkor. Thousands of people visit Angkor every year, and it is the most prominent tourist site in Cambodia. Angkor gained much notoriety when the movie Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie was filmed there a few years ago.

Cliffs of Moher - Ireland
The Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland. The cliffs are 394 feet above the Atlantic Ocean and have a maximum height of 702 feet. A new visitor center has opened and the Cliffs of Moher attract many thousands of visitors each year. Word of warning - don't get too close to the edge - yes, people have fallen over, and make sure you bring a coat, it can be very cold.
